9 Volt Battery

Types of Batteries

Batteries are small electrical storage cells that are used to power portable electronic devices. There are many different types of batteries, which are made to serve a great number of purposes.

Some batteries are very physically large, and carry a very large amount of electric charge. Others are much smaller, such as 9 volt batteries, and are designed with less electric charge. Some are made to last a long time, though they are more expensive than a typical battery.

Whatever the case may be, if you have any type of portable electronic device in your possession, odds are good that you will either need to get or replace a battery in it at some point. And since every device needs a special amount of electrical DC energy to make it work, it is imperative that you use the right batteries for the right devices.

For example, a small wrist watch might only need very small watch batteries...a car, however, will need a large enough battery to turn over the starter in order to get the car running. Then, items like flashlights and tv remote controllers take average AA and AAA sized batteries.

In order to properly buy the right kind of battery for the job, you need to first figure out what size you need, then figure out what type of battery you need.

As far as size goes, finding the batteries that are right for you is usually as simple as reading either the owners manual of the device, or the actual small print on the device itself to figure out what you need.

Some devices will be easy to guess, while others might be more difficult. For example, it is usually easier to guess the right battery size for a flashlight than it is for something small, like a watch.

Once you figure out what size the batteries need to be, it is time to figure out what type you need. Do you need batteries that will last a long time, such as lithium batteries? Would rechargeable batteries be better? Or, do you just need a cheap set of batteries so that you can save a little money in this particular device?

Some devices, such as tv remote controllers, do not require super-expensive or long lasting batteries. On things like this, you can kind of skimp and go with something cheaper. This will still get the job done, while saving you some money in the mean-time!
